Who are we?

Volt Lines is the only technology-enabled player in the Turkish market competing against legacy incumbents and it reduces emissions and traffic by turning premium 16-seater buses into a viable alternative to single occupancy vehicles.

What we do?

In Istanbul, over 50,000 buses operate at 31% efficiency. These buses, which contribute to the city's traffic with empty seats, could also be the solution to its problem. Volt Lines is the only shuttle service provider that has both software as well as a transport service. This allows for optimal harmonization of the software and operation resulting in the creation of great experiences and services. Notable examples of these innovative services include DRT and Marketplace. DRT (short for Demand-Responsive Transport) was covered by a Harvard Business School case study that is being taught at the MBA school. Marketplace on the other hand allows companies to sell empty seats on their buses to neighboring passengers who are going in the same direction at the same time.

We are looking for a talented Backend Engineer to join our team and contribute to building innovative solutions that enhance the future of transportation.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain server-side applications to support Volt Lines’ business objectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and design new features.
• Optimize and improve existing backend architecture for performance and reliability.
• Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting of backend systems.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and integrate them into the development process.
• Contribute to database design and management, ensuring data integrity and security.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in backend development with Python..
• Strong working experience with Django and Django REST Framework.
• Solid experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs
• Production experience with PostgreSQL; schema design, query optimization, migrations on live systems.
• Working experience with Redis for caching and Celery for asynchronous task processing.
• Familiarity with Kafka or similar event streaming systems
• Experience with Git-based workflows, code review culture, and writing meaningful tests for your own code.
• Understanding of containerization with Docker and orchestration basics with Kubernetes.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

Nice to Have

• Hands-on experience with AWS services; EKS, RDS, S3, EC2, ElastiCache.
• Familiarity with observability tooling; OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Sentry, or equivalent.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines; Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions, or similar.
• Exposure to geospatial systems, mapping APIs, or logistics/transportation domain.
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architectures and feature flagging systems.
• Working knowledge of Golang is a plus.
