You'll lead the design and development of critical backend systems serving millions of users, driving technical decisions and mentoring engineers in a high-talent-density environment where your expertise shapes the product and the team.Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and architecture of scalable, resilient backend systems
• Own end-to-end delivery of complex features from design through deployment
• Establish best practices for monitoring, observability, and system reliability
• Solve complex scale challenges: high-concurrency events, real-time processing, sub-second response times at massive scale
• Design and implement distributed systems patterns for fault tolerance and high availability
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance
• Drive technical decisions and contribute to engineering roadmap discussions
• Collaborate across teams to align backend architecture with product and business goals
• Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and architectural improvements

Technical Challenges

• Architecting systems that gracefully handle traffic spikes during live events and major content releases
• Designing and scaling microservices to handle billions of requests
• Building real-time data pipelines processing billions of user interactions
• Ensuring consistent, low-latency performance across diverse regions
• Balancing innovation with system stability and maintainability

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience, with significant time spent on systems at scale
• Strong proficiency in backend languages and frameworks (Go strongly preferred; Java/Kotlin/Spring, Python also valued)
• Deep experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) including query optimization and schema design
• Extensive hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture, distributed systems, and their trade-offs
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) in production
• Track record of designing systems that handle high throughput and low latency requirements
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex distributed systems
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating across teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or scaling streaming/media platforms
• Expertise in system design and leading architecture discussions
• Deep knowledge of observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, distributed tracing)
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Familiarity with performance profiling and optimization techniques
• PHP knowledge (for maintaining and migrating legacy systems)
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives
